Cupertino Academy is a Christian homeschool partnership providing intensive literacy intervention for children with dyslexia and related learning differences. Our program offers a temporary bridge for families working toward a future transition into a public or private school setting — helping students build stronger literacy skills, confidence, and independence.
Students receive complete English language arts instruction, including Orton-Gillingham-based Structured Literacy, in a focused two-hour block each school day. With no more than four students per group, instruction responds to each child’s learning needs.
Families oversee the remaining homeschool subjects, and we offer curriculum suggestions to help them plan that part of their child’s education. You do not need to be an experienced homeschool family to explore whether Cupertino is the right fit.

A partnership, not a handoff.
Cupertino Academy is a homeschool partnership, not a homeschool co-op. Our teachers provide daily, specialized literacy intervention and your child’s complete English language arts curriculum. Families direct the rest of their child’s homeschool education — and we are glad to suggest curriculum for those subjects.
We teach the complete ELA curriculum
Reading, spelling, handwriting, vocabulary, grammar, comprehension, and writing. Families do not need to purchase or teach a separate English language arts curriculum.
Families oversee the remaining subjects
Math, science, history, electives, and other areas of your child’s homeschool education, along with the applicable homeschool responsibilities.
We offer curriculum suggestions
Families can receive recommendations for the subjects taught outside Cupertino, to help you make informed choices for your child.
Inside the block
Two hours, one complete literacy program.
Reading, spelling, handwriting, vocabulary, grammar, comprehension, and writing are taught together — each one reinforcing the others. The second hour is grouped by stage of learning: early elementary, upper elementary, or middle school.
Hour one — make the reading code explicit
- Individualized, diagnostic, and prescriptive Orton-Gillingham reading and spelling lessons
- Phonemic awareness and sound–symbol relationships
- Decoding, encoding, high-frequency words, and spelling
- Connected text, accuracy, fluency, and cumulative review
Hour two — build language and apply it
- ELA instruction at an early elementary, upper elementary, or middle school level
- Interactive read-alouds, discussion, and comprehension
- Oral vocabulary and background knowledge
- Grammar, sentence construction, and written expression
- Focused handwriting, and spelling applied in real writing
The Foundations program
Our Foundations Pods
Foundational literacy instruction. English language arts that fits your child’s stage of learning.
Cupertino Academy’s Foundations program combines specialized literacy intervention with a complete English language arts curriculum. Each pod follows a focused two-hour structure, with foundational reading and spelling instruction during the first hour and broader ELA instruction during the second.
We offer three Foundations pod options: Early Elementary, Upper Elementary, and Middle School. These names describe the ELA focus of the second hour. Each child’s literacy needs continue to guide their foundational reading instruction.
This structure allows students to strengthen essential reading skills while engaging with language, ideas, and writing appropriate to their stage of learning.
Early Elementary
Foundational reading and spelling instruction paired with early elementary English language arts — read-alouds and discussion, handwriting, grammar, and early writing.
Upper Elementary
Foundational reading and spelling instruction paired with upper elementary English language arts — vocabulary, comprehension, grammar, and written expression.
Middle School
Foundational reading and spelling instruction paired with middle school English language arts — age-appropriate literature, discussion, vocabulary, grammar, and organized writing.
Monday–Friday, 12:15–2:15 p.m. · Maximum four students per pod. Placement considers both WADE assessment results and the student’s current grade level. A few dates differ — see the academic calendar.

Because Cupertino Academy focuses exclusively on literacy, families oversee the remaining subjects — math, science, history, and electives — along with the applicable homeschool responsibilities. We offer curriculum suggestions to help you plan that part of your child’s education, whether or not you have homeschooled before.

Those are understandable concerns. You do not have to have everything figured out before reaching out to Cupertino.
We take responsibility for your child’s complete English language arts instruction and offer curriculum suggestions for math, science, history, and other homeschool subjects. Your family remains responsible for those subjects, with recommendations available to help you get started.
For families pursuing a future school transition, homeschooling can be a purposeful season of intervention. Our goal is to help your child build the skills and confidence to move forward, with the timing guided by their individual needs and progress.
